Top 2 Teams In Super Bowl
# of Top 4 teams playing Championship Weekend
1. 90% Of The Top 10 Teams Made Playoffs
Every one of the top nine teams made the playoffs. This is significant because it demonstrates the value in not only this metric, but the overall concept of building a roster to withstand external pressures.
Remember, Margin For Error is an objective measure of how much room teams have for making errors in a game. So it should be no surprise that the teams who ranked high in this made the playoffs. Eight of those nine teams finished top 10 in SBx as well, showing the value of starting that process with building an efficient scoring offense.
2. Once Again, Top 2 Teams Reach Super Bowl
Last year, the top two teams in Margin For Error were the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles, who then squared off in the Super Bowl.
Well, it happened again. Following Championship weekend, the Chiefs finished the season second overall, in part by beating the then number one team.
With the 49ers back in the one spot, and the Chiefs overtaking second, it ensures that again the top 2 teams in Margin For Error have made the Super Bowl.
As we look at the tale of the tape, we can see that they each made it in very different ways, and it may be the Chiefs who had the tougher road according to our NFL Analytics predictions.
3. Top 3 Teams Played On Championship Weekend
The top three teams were the 49ers, Chiefs, and Ravens. All three played this past weekend, with the 49ers and Ravens hosting those games.
The only exception was the Detroit Lions, who finished 15th following their loss to the 49ers. However, again a testament to the value of having an efficient scoring offense, the Lions finished ranked second overall in Scoring Behavior rate.
