Saints vs. Panthers Prediction: Behavioral Profiles

 

 

Our first MNF prediction looks at the NFC South battle, Saints vs. Panthers. The Saints have added possibly the top quarterback in the division with Derek Carr, to pair with a defense that was elite in the second half of the season.

To pair with that elite defense they added quarterback Derek Carr, who instantly become the most accomplished quarterback in the division. Week 1 didn’t feature the scoring they would have liked, but the production was there. Carr had over 300 yards passing and showed a promising connection with second year receiver Chris Olave. We expect that level of production will improve their SBx over time. 

 

The Carolina Panthers bring rookie quarterback Bryce Young to face one of his toughest tests of the season. He threw for under 200 yards and the offense managed just 10 points. We suspect the growing pains will continue in our MNF prediction for Game 1. 

 

Browns vs. Steelers Prediction: Behavioral Profiles

 

 

Our Monday Night Football prediction for Game 2 features another divisional battle, this time in the AFC North. Its Browns vs. Steelers. Week 1 saw surprising performances from both teams, and we question the sustainability of both. 

Week 1 saw the Browns stun the Bengals:

• The Browns under Deshaun Watson in 2022 were the worst offense in Scoring Behavior Rate (SBx) in the NFL
  • Watson’s offense saw a 50% regression from brissett’s in 2022
• Their 2023 Week 1 performance was still below Brissett’s 2022 average
• Watson barely threw for more than 150 yards

The Steelers looked about as bad as a team could look in their loss to the clearly superior 49ers squad in Week 1. The Browns, though, are not the 49ers. Though their defense is quite effective. The Steelers will need Kenny Pickett to rebound and show the promise he did in the preseason. In our MNF prediction for Game 2, we think they keep it close.

Both of these games present an interesting opportunity to see how these teams continue to shape their behavior. The early part of the season is all about forming your identity. For the Saints vs. Panthers, our Monday Night Football prediction thinks the Saints cement themselves as team 1A in the NFC South. Likewise, the Panthers showcase that they still need time to grow.
